Ethical Considerations in Case Management

This session will feature a discussion and video presentation of some of the Ethical dilemmas that Attorneys, Medical Case Managers and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors face on a daily basis. The purpose will be to inform and educate those who perform and utilize the services about the nature of these dilemmas as well as the potential pitfalls, solutions, and the ethical standards of practice for the respective professions.

PROPER PROCEDURES FOR DELIVERY OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION SERVICES:
A Review of the Law and Regulations

The Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission Vocational Rehabilitation Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the law and COMAR regulations, which govern the delivery of vocational services to the injured worker. Our multidisciplinary panel will outline the proper procedures to be implemented by all participants in the process.

What is the impact of surveillance on a claim? Our panel, which includes an investigator, defense counsel, claimant's counsel, physician, Commissioner and the "claimant" himself addresses the ways surveillance can change the course of a claim and how that impact can be minimized, or even avoided by good communication between claimant and his attorney. Learn how "zinger" films can reduce the exposure or value of a claim, and what the benefits and limits are, in handling the claim during treatment as well as in the courtroom.
